Mu’allimah Fazila is the founder of Sacred Light, a non-profit organization committed to teaching Qur'anic Arabic, and Tajweed. She holds a Bachelor of Education degree and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Teaching from the University of South Africa. Fazila began her career as a high school teacher in Zimbabwe before migrating to Australia, where she transitioned into the IT industry. For 16 years, she worked as a Project Manager, gaining extensive experience in managing complex projects, before retiring to dedicate herself fully to Islamic education through the establishment of Sacred Light.
Her journey into Classical Arabic and Islamic studies began during her university years and was further enriched through studies with the Qibla Institute in Jordan. Fazila also holds an Ijazah in Qur’an recitation with Tajweed (in the riwayah of Hafs an Asim), with a connected chain of transmission. She is the author of Mastering Qur'anic Arabic Grammar (Part 1), a comprehensive textbook designed to support students in understanding the intricate grammar of Qur’anic Arabic, reflecting her dedication to making the language accessible to learners of all levels..
With many years of experience in Islamic education, Fazila has taught students ranging from children to adults. As a Madrassa principal, she guided young learners in Qur’an and Islamic Studies, shaping the educational journeys of many students. Now, as an instructor and guiding force at Sacred Light, she combines her diverse professional background, knowledge, and passion for teaching to inspire adults in their study of Qur'anic Arabic grammar and Tajweed, fostering a deeper connection to the Qur'an.Jamilah Solwa | Teacher

Mu'allimah Jamilah is a dedicated teacher and educator with a passion for the Qur'an and Arabic language. Born and raised in South Africa, she initially pursued a career in optometry, however, her love for the Qur'an and a desire to make a meaningful impact drew her to the field of Islamic education. This transformative decision marked the beginning of a fulfilling journey, where teaching Arabic became both her calling and her contribution to preserving the beauty of the Qur'an's language.
Loved by her students for her engaging and approachable teaching style, Jamilah has cultivated a strong proficiency in Arabic grammar. Her studies with renowned institutions such as Bayyinah Institute , Qutoof Academy, and AlHuda Institute provided her with a solid foundation in Arabic linguistics. As one of our Sacred Light Instructors, through her lessons, she bridges the complexities of grammar with practical application, making the subject accessible and enjoyable for learners.
Her unwavering commitment to sharing the beauty and depth of the Qur'an continues to inspire students from diverse backgrounds. Mu'allimah Haleema is an alumna of Sacred Light. Born in Zimbabwe, she raised her sons in Australia, where her dedication and love for the Qur'an played a pivotal role in two of her sons becoming Hafidh Al-Qur'an. Her journey reflects a deep commitment to the Qur'an and its teachings, which has shaped her own life and the lives of her family.
She is currently pursuing her Ijaazah in Tajweed under the guidance of the esteemed Ustadha Noura Abu Ghazaleh in Brisbane. This ongoing effort reflects her dedication to perfecting her recitation and understanding of the Qur'an, further enriching her teaching capabilities.
With a strong grasp of Arabic grammar gained through three years of study with Sacred Light, she now teaches Arabic as one of our Sacred Light Instructors. Mu'allimah Maryam began her Arabic studies with an intensive 9-month full-time course at the Ibn Jabal Institute in London, where she built a strong foundation in classical Arabic grammar and linguistics. This rigorous program provided her with the tools to engage deeply with the Arabic language, igniting her passion for understanding and teaching the Qur'an. Her dedication to mastering the language led her to pursue further studies abroad, where she immersed herself in environments dedicated to Arabic scholarship
Maryam’s journey continued at the Qasid Institute in Amman, Jordan, where she dedicated six months to full-time study of classical Arabic. This immersive experience significantly enhanced her proficiency in both speaking and comprehension, equipping her with the skills to communicate fluently and understand the subtleties of Qur'anic Arabic. Her time at Qasid allowed her to develop a deeper appreciation for the language and its connection to the Qur'an, shaping her teaching methodology
In addition to her Arabic studies, Maryam has spent several years studying and teaching Tajweed, further enriching her contributions to Qur'anic education. In 2023, she completed an advanced-level Tajweed course through the Jordanian Holy Quran Preservation Society, demonstrating her commitment to mastering the intricate rules of Qur'anic recitation. Her expertise in both Arabic and Tajweed enables her to inspire students as they strive to connect with the Qur'an through precise recitation and a deeper understanding of its language.Shaida Gutta | Teacher

Born and raised in South Africa, Shaida pursued a career in medicine and qualified as a doctor before relocating to Australia in 1999. Her dedication to both her profession and family reflects her multifaceted commitment to serving others, a quality that has also shaped her passion for Islamic education
Actively involved in the Islamic upbringing of her four sons, Shaida’s love for the Qur’an grew as she supported her children in their religious studies. This journey deepened her desire to connect with the Qur’an on a personal level, inspiring her to seek greater understanding of its language and teachings. Her passion for learning led her to enroll in the Jannah Institute, a program renowned for its rigorous and immersive Qur’anic studies. Now in her third year, she continues to enhance her understanding of Tajweed, Qur’anic interpretation, and Arabic grammar through this comprehensive program

Mu’allimah Ruqayyah holds a BA degree in Religion and Philosophy from the University of Queensland, reflecting her deep interest in Islamic studies and spirituality. In 2001, she earned her Ijazah in the recitation of Hafs an Asim in Damascus, Syria, marking the beginning of her lifelong dedication to the Qur'an. Her passion for sharing the beauty of Qur’anic recitation led her to teach Qur’an and Tajweed to women and children in Brisbane, Australia, where she laid the foundation for her teaching career.
Since 2015, Ruqayyah has been devoted to teaching Tajweed classes for women in Durban, South Africa, both in person and online. Her engaging teaching style and commitment to her students have made her classes accessible and impactful for learners of all levels. To further refine her knowledge, she has attended numerous Tajweed courses and workshops, benefiting from the guidance of esteemed instructors such as Ustadha Saima Yacoob and Ustadha Kareema Czerepinski. These experiences have enriched her understanding and strengthened her ability to teach with clarity and precision.
Currently, Ruqayyah is completing an advanced-level Tajweed course with the Society for the Preservation of the Holy Qur'an in Jordan. This ongoing pursuit of excellence underscores her dedication to mastering Qur'anic recitation and transmitting its rules to her students. Through her work, she continues to inspire women across the globe to connect deeply with the Qur'an and perfect their recitation with confidence and reverence.
